take a step back today, look at all those beautiful things you have.”

Yesterday afternoon, while having my alone time I watched a movie on my laptop entitled The Sessions.

Screen Shot 2013-02-08 at 10

According to Wikipedia it was originally titled “The Surrogate”.

This is a true story of Mark O’Brien, a poet paralyzed from the neck down due to polio who hired a sex surrogate to lose his virginity.

Starring Helen Hunt (who played the sex surrogate) and John Hawkes (who played Mark O’Brien).

You can look at the film in 2 ways. 1. be gross out by it (graphic scenes of sex with a severly disabled) or 2. you can count your blessings.

This is the story of 36 years old man (his age when the movie started) who got paralyzed from the neck down due to polio at the age of 6. His parents didn’t put him in a facility but took care of him until they died.

Mark O’Brien was taken care of workers that he hired and you can see their daily struggles.

Mark O’Brien struggled even just to breathe. But he was able to graduate in USC Berkeley majoring in English and became a poet.

He goes to school in a self driven gurney.

After watching the movie I opted to choose # 2 and counted my blessings.
