The minute I landed in Manila (from Cebu) last Tuesday the first text I got was from my friend Carlo Lorenzana (owner of La Cabrera Manila). He was inviting me for lunch on Nov. 2, 2017. Chef Gaston Riviera is in town and will be showcasing Argentinian beef in La Cabrera Manila. Of course I’ll go.

I cannot not go. 1. Carlo is a good friend. 2. it’s Chef Gaston, no less! 3. When La Cabrera parties it’s always a gastronomical experience.

Carlo met me by the entrance and introduced me to Chef Gaston right away.

Who is Chef Gaston Riviera?

Chef Gaston is one of the top 50 Chefs in South America. Gaston Riveira is the creator of La Cabrera (Argentina), one of the most successful “parrillas” of Buenos Aires. He can be defined as a true chef, selecting the goods, trying each dish and examining trends. Every detail is important.

When Gaston felt it was time to have his own space, he leaned on the meat, “National ingredient, loved by all” and decided to create a new concept of grill. He wanted it to be a perfect place where everyone eats well and better. He knew he had to have a good team and be present, “because a restaurant cannot be managed by remote control.” Thus was born La Cabrera, a different parrilla. – Chefs & Wines

Carlo invited some press people like Shauna Williams of Philippine Tatler, Ron and Chris of Handpicked by RonandChris, Ito Curata, and Bob, Alicia Sy, and of course, me (press ako. lol!), etc.

There were 2 long tables of us and the Ambassador of Argentina came to the lunch, too. He can’t miss Chef Gaston.

We were given the menu as we sat down.

Let the game begin!

While waiting for more people to arrive Rosè overflowed

First to come out was:

Chorizo Trillio de Rueda con Salsa Triolla y Chimichurri

Creole Wheel Chorizo Sausage with Chimichurri sauce and criolla

the best chorizo I have ever eaten in my life!

It came with Camembert with Apple Chutney

Next was:

Salmon Rosado con Tomates, Albahaca y Alcaparras

Salmon with chopped tomato, garlic, and capers

From the grill:

Milanese de Carne Napolitana

Striploin with ham and provolone cheese

Ojo de Bife (Argentina) 400g

Ribeye (Argentinian) 400g

Lomo Grillado y Cocido con Brasas de Mango

Grilled Tenderloin and cooked with Mango coal

This overflowed the entire lunch:

Assorted Dessert!

some of the guests…

My good friend Carlo Lorenzana and Chef Gaston

It was a long and sumptuous lunch. It always is every time La Cabrera Manila invites for lunch. How can you say no to this?

La Cabrera Manila has always been my favorite steakhouse. This is the place I bring my guests from out of town. To fully taste the flavors of Argentina brought to us by one of the best Chef of South America bring your family and friends for a good dine-in experience and enjoy the newly presented menu and if you’re lucky Carlo Lorenzana will be there to greet you at your table.
